Well, this is a more up-to-date update…Haha…Classes started about three weeks ago and yes, my life here is pretty hectic at the moment…Not only do I have a terrible timetable – my classes are from 8am to 8pm on Thursdays – what the ****? – I’ve even got classes on Saturdays! And Ken and I also just moved into our new room and we’re busy trying to find time to buy the necessary stuff for the room…And on top of that I’ve got tests to study for – yes, memorizing each part of the entire skeleton is no easy task when almost every bone in the body has got almost 15 different parts with Latin and English names – and you have to memorize them all! And did I mention that I’ve got dance practices for the upcoming Deepavali celebrations?
I’m surprised I can still find time to breathe…
Anyway, about our room – it’s bloody small…Ken and I were so disappointed when we saw the room and observed its minuscule size…This place has some weird arrangement whereby some rooms are much bigger, whilst the rest are considerably smaller…I do not know why they can’t just make all the rooms similar in size…The only consolation is the fact that the whole floor was just renovated and thus looks better than some of the other floors…
The weather is getting colder by the day…But it is just so unpredictable…At times it can be 7 degrees Celcius, and at other times it can be 12 – it can also drop down to 1 all of a sudden…There’s no gradual decrease in temperature as winter gets closer…It snowed a couple of weeks back and that was it – just one night…And it wasn’t even winter yet…And quite a number of us here are having dry skin problems, including me…I guess its due to the weather…And our seniors are telling us our skin issues are bound to get worse during winter…Great…Haha…
At the moment, I’m studying Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy, History of Medicine – yes, history! – Latin, Clinical Russian and Intensive Russian…Some people here have the idea that Biology, Chemistry and Physics would be easy for Ken and I as both of us did A-Levels…Most of the students here did pre-medical…In a way, they are right…Part of what I’m studying now for those subjects are stuff that I’ve already covered during A-Levels, but I wouldn’t say it makes it so much easier for me…There are still small differences and extra stuff, and weirdly, Chemistry seems to involve both Biology and Physics, and Physics is like my most “favourite” subject in the world…Damn…
The Russian language is proving to be quite a headache though…No, learning the day-to-day language is not the real issue here, but learning the medical terminology in Russian is…For those who don’t know, the Russian language is divided into three parts or gender – masculine, feminine and neutral…It’s so darn confusing and irritating when you have no idea what on Earth the lecturer is talking about…
On the other hand the Russian language for our day-to-day usage is alright and pretty easy to learn…Of course, I can’t exactly have lengthy conversations in Russian with another Russian but I could manage some simple, basic sentences…That’s a start, I suppose…Though at times when some Russian comes up to me and says something in Russian and I don’t get what they mean, I just smile, or nod my head, or say “Da” which means “Yes” in Russian! Haha…There’s nothing else I could do, after all…
Not all Russians are nice though…About two weeks ago, this Russian bloke came up to Ken and myself and started disturbing us…He was basically making fools out of us in front of other Russians at the bus station as we couldn’t understand him…
That aside, food is alright here as well…I mean, the food that we cook on our own…I don’t really like some of the Russian food here but I guess I haven’t been exposed to the nice stuff yet…Having Ken around is indeed an advantage as he could cook loads of stuff out of his own creativity…I could do the same but I guess I lack the confidence…Haha…Not that I haven’t cooked at all before!
Life here is definitely anything but dull…I kinda “officiated” a new set of knives that Ken bought for us to use on something very much alive – my fingers! It was so bloody stupid of me…Two cuts on two fingers, one finger each on each palm…And the cuts were quite deep..One was bleeding for so darn long…Damn, guess how I sustained the first cut? I guess I was just touching the edge of the knife to feel how sharp it was when I got cut…How idiotic of me – obviously new knives are sharp, right? Haha…
And boy, don’t get me started on Russians when they try to board the bus – if there was space enough for a mouse to squeeze through, they would get in, making the phrase sardine-packed a reality…Seriously, it is so bloody irritating the way people just keep pushing in and in when there is obviously almost no place left at all! Damn!
Anyway, I’ll update more when I can…Busy with exams and such…
